Scan more than a retail UPC
Read common retail symbols as well as pharmaceutical GS1 DataMatrix and GS1 DataBar formats used for product, lot, expiration, and serial data.
Turn encoded data into labeled fields
Instead of showing one long character string, the app separates recognized Application Identifiers and labels fields such as GTIN, lot, expiration date, and serial number.
Explain what is wrong
Validation surfaces check-digit failures, impossible dates, incorrect lengths, and separator problems with enough context to troubleshoot the source data.

THE NERD SECTION

Pharmaceutical barcodes are compact data structures. The Nerd Section is where the app's parsing and validation behavior becomes visible instead of feeling like a black box.
GS1 Application Identifiers
The parser recognizes AI prefixes and applies the corresponding fixed-length or variable-length rules before presenting each value as a named field.
FNC1 and separator handling
Variable-length fields depend on separators to show where one value ends and the next AI begins. The app identifies missing or misplaced boundaries that can corrupt an otherwise readable scan.
GTIN check-digit validation
GTIN values are checked using the standard alternating-weight calculation, allowing the app to distinguish a structurally valid identifier from a mistyped or malformed one.
Domain-specific dates and lengths
Expiration dates, lot values, serial values, and other fields are checked against the formatting constraints of their associated AI rather than validated as generic text.
